About Habitat for Humanity at Pitt
We are the campus extension of the national Habitat for Humanity organization, focused on making affordable housing a reality in our community.
Our main focus are workdays which are days where we do construction volunteer work with Armstrong County Habitat for Humanity, Allegheny Valley Habitat for Humanity, and Open Hand Ministries to further the affordable housing mission of Habitat for Humanity. Most of the work is renovation of old homes that will be sold to families for a more affordable price.
We also have a spring service trip where we travel to a different part of the country to work with Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity.
We fundraise to make our workdays and spring service trip possible, and we do community outreach to build a like-minded community in our club as well as the city as a whole! We do this through social events as well as advocacy events.
Join Us
All students are welcome to join us! We have no required level of commitment and all majors are welcome. In addition, no construction skills are necessary - we'll teach you everything you need to know! Sign up for our email list to get started!

What Are Workdays?
Workdays are volunteer construction opportunities where we work on homes with our partners: Armstrong County Habitat for Humanity, Allegheny Valley Habitat for Humanity, and Open Hand Ministries. Most of our work involves renovating older homes that will be sold to families at affordable prices.
What to Expect
On a typical workday:
- We meet on campus and travel to the work site together
- Professional construction supervisors provide guidance and instruction
- Tasks range from painting and basic carpentry to demolition and renovation
- All necessary tools and safety equipment are provided
- No prior construction experience is needed!
Upcoming Workdays
Check our calendar for upcoming workday opportunities:
Spring Service Trip
Each spring break, we embark on a week-long service trip to work with a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in another part of the country.
About the Trip
Our annual spring break trip is an intensive, immersive experience where we:
- Travel to a location with significant housing needs
- Work for a full week on construction projects
- Connect with local communities and understand their housing challenges
- Build lasting friendships within our club
Previous Destinations
For the past few years, we have traveled to Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity in North Carolina and formed a strong partnership with their local affiliate.
This Year's Trip
How to Participate
Spring trip participation is open to all club members, but spaces are limited. Participants are selected based on participation in club activities including workdays and fundraising events. It is a lifechanging experience that most members would recommend you partake in. Please learn more about the trip and apply by joining our club and attending our meetings!
The trip is heavily subsidized through our fundraising efforts, making it affordable for student participants. Interested in joining? Get involved with our chapter today!
